What is a limited obstetrical ultrasound, and why do I need one?
A limited obstetrical ultrasound is performed in your first trimester and will provide you with the following information:
- Confirm the pregnancy is developing within the uterus
- Detect fetal heart activity
- Estimate the gestational age (how far along you are in your pregnancy)
If I am having an abortion, do I still need to do this?
Yes, you need an ultrasound to confirm the presence of a baby in your uterus and to confirm gestational age of your baby. The options for abortion and its cost will depend on the information from a limited obstetrical ultrasound.
This service is offered completely free, confidential, and is performed by a licensed professional at Health Resources Center.
Is it truly free, or do I need insurance?
Yes, it is completely free! There is no insurance needed, and there’s no verification of income required. All ultrasounds do require a positive pregnancy test.
After the ultrasound is complete… you’ll have the opportunity to discuss, with your nurse, any questions or concerns you may have and talk through your next steps. A support person is welcome and encouraged to come with you to your appointment, whether it be your spouse, significant other, family member or friend.
If desired, all ultrasound images can be provided to you in printed form or made available for digital download.
